Neela Miller was born in Brooklyn, New York to an Indian mother and American father. She was raised in the New Jersey suburbs near her Indian relatives in NYC. After graduating from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Sculpture, Neela moved to a remote Tibetan Buddhist country center where she lived for 5 years working on Buddhist sacred art, architecture, and texts. Today she lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, working with themes of female mixed race identity and spirituality through mixed media sculpture.

The themes of mixed race identity and spirituality come through in a mixed media approach. Every material has its own story, its own strengths and weaknesses. The play of them together, how they blend and juxtapose each other, highlights these qualities.
